Long back ago, an astrologer lived with his son. Astrologer is well known for his prediction all
around. Astrologer's son Karuppa Sithar was a hunter and he used to go for hunting. Astrologer advised him not to go Southside for hunting but he ignored his advice and went for hunting. After some days Karuppa Sithar infected with an incurable disease.
While days passing by, the condition of the Karuppa Sithar getting deteriorated and one night in his dream god appeared. God told him that the disease can be cured if he performs a pooja at a particular place. He will be guided to the place by an eagle andeagle will be indicating where he should perform pooja. There Karuppa Sithar finds the god idol at the specified location and performs the pooja as per his dream. He recovered from his illness and the disease also cured. He continued worshipping the god thereafter and became an ardent devotee.
As years passing by, the entire area was faced with drought. Karuppa Sithar decides to take the god's idol to all the places so that people can worship the god and get his blessings. He takes a wooden box and placed the god's idol inside and carried the wooden box on his shoulder to different places.
After some days, the god wished to relieve Karuppa Sithar from taking care of his idol due to his old age and move to a permanent place. So that god created incurable disease to Periya Pillai, one of the rich men.
So Periya Pillai suffering from an incurable disease as per god's plan. Then God appeared in his dream and told him that if he offers him some area for the idol to be placed and in return his disease should be cured with normal medicine.
Periya Pillai offers the area for the idol to be placed and temple to be constructed on that place. At the same time, disease also gets treated and Periya Pillai recovered from his illness. This is the place where the temple exists now.
